Chase The Compass is a multi-platform music blog dedicated to all things Disco, House and Techno. We sat down with brainchild Jamie Ferguson to get the inside track on the much-loved series…
Who are the awesome people behind Chase The Compass?
Chase The Compass is co-owned by Charlotte Cijffers & Jamie Ferguson, who double as the Digital Editor of DJ Mag (Charlotte) and Trinity Mirror editorial staff (Jamie) during the day! Then there’s our CTC editor Declan McGlynn (he heads up DJ School Point Blank’s YouTube channel), our Social Media guru Chris Salter (he manages socials for fancy corporate clients!), our amazing writers Louis and Leon, plus our resident DJs Frank McWeeny (French Toast Radio), Tian Karl (Divine Sounds) and more…
When did you form CTC?
Jamie: It was formed in 2011 as a solo project of Charlotte to showcase her writing — it was very nearly a travel blog!
Where are you based?
Charlotte: The main team are based in London but we have friends in cities across the world. Look out for us popping up with an event or two in a city near you in the future.
What’s your most awesome memory whilst working together?
Jamie: At one of our events recently, we looked around at what we’ve created, this family environment full of talent and friendship, so many smiling faces in the crowd and our DJs slaying it behind the decks!
Have you met any famous people? If so, who was your favourite?
Jamie: Most recently it was Carl Cox. He was such a gentleman and someone who is a credit to the industry in the way that he holds himself. Even with being asked 24/7 for a picture with someone, it is never any hassle for him and his big smile!
Charlotte: I recently met Marco Carola, powerful techno vibes!
What do you do when you’re not ‘Chasing the Compass’?
Jamie: It is pretty much a round the clock affair whether it be replying to promo e-mails, organising events or just generally enjoying music at gigs with friends. We are very lucky that we have so much going on all of the time in London with the best DJ’s from around the world on our doorstep! Other than that, up in Liverpool with my family watching my football team Everton play.
Charlotte: If I’m not listening to, talking about, writing about music, I’m asleep.
Are there any hot up-and-coming artists you would suggest our fans follow?
Jamie: Tian Karl, Young Franco, Set Mo, Writers, Block, Weiss & Illyus and Barrientos!
Charlotte: Anna Wall, Mr Tophat & Art Alfie, Opolopo, Politics of Dancing
If you could only visit one music festival/event which would it be?
Jamie: ADE. Such a Beautiful city, so many people together in one place and amazing music.
Charlotte: BPM festival in Mexico or Kazantip in Georgia, I will make it one day!
Are you planning any awesome road trips this winter?
We are throwing a party in NYC with our friends SUPPLY at the beginning of December, which we really can’t wait for. Look out for us New York, we’re coming!
Who is your favourite new artist at the moment?
Charlotte: New Zealand/Berlin analogue duo, Snacks Live!
Jamie: London producer Embody has to be my pick!
